How to automatically tweet your new blog posts, like this one!

Have a twitter account?
Have a blog?
You feel it would be nice if your new blog posts are tweeted automatically?

If the answer to any of the questions above is NO, please move on. There is not much that you can benefit from by reading the following. For others, here it is:

  1. Go to twitterfeed.com. Actually the next steps below are self-explanatory if you are into twitterfeed.com, but I'll explain that anyway.
  2. Get an account there - You just need an email ID
  3. Twitter as a service is the default selection. No need to touch that!
  4. Authenticate your twitter account, i.e let twitter verify that you would like to authorise Twitterfeed to publish the things into your twitter account. This is a one time activity
  5. Having done the above step, Step 2 is shown- name feed and add source URL
  6. Give the feed a name - If you are going to keep multiple feeds, it would be good if you keep each one in an organised manner.
  7. Add Rss feed URL - this can be got from the Blog page of your blog.
  8. - In case you have a Blogger blog, it should be something like this http://feeds.feedburner.com/YourBlogTitle
    - In case it is a Wordpress blog, it would be something like this
    http://YourBlogAddress/feed/Title
Pray, replace the YourBlogTitle and YourBlogAddress with your relevant addresses, in my case for this blog, the Rss feed URL is http://feeds.feedburner.com/Aurbatao

  9. You can also test the rss feed by clicking the test button
  10. Advance settings? Yeah, you can play with that to make customizations as per your whims. Like I have chosen to have each auto-tweet to begin with 'New Blog post:' Plus I also shorten the URLs using a service. Play around!
  11. Click "Create Feed" -- DONE!
I hope this helped. If it did, I'd like you to show your gratitude. Pls leave a comment. I'd love to comment on that!

What happens when you get too many RTs

Yesterday I tweeted something and what RTs I received to this!! I mean, people would get 100x more RTs than this (say, If Sashi Tharoor said something) but I was really overwhelmed by the sheer no of RTs in less than an hour or so and then it still kept on flowing...ok just checked, the number is not so high (about 70-75) but still it is quite high for me, my highest.

And although I get nothing out of it (as we were discussing when this was happening), I still am excited about it when it's been almost 24 hrs since i tweeted that.

Sachin you rule!

5 minute relevant post

Some posts are relevant for a life-time, some for shorter duration. some for just a few moments.

Sachin is about to create history with 17,000 runs -- and how many records has he set already.
I'm sure it'll be same when he is nearing 18k mark...

So in office all are watching Live TV on their computers, watching people in the stadium praying, and very emotional.

I think it should be done by the time I click post over here.

Change is just a change away

After having this thought fluttering around in my head ever since I started this blog, I finally changed the look of the blog today. Needless to say, I have not done much on this front for a long time.

I do intend to make the change though.

Plus, A post a day will keep most away.

Who is more popular

Just had a discussion a few days back, with two personalities being compared:

1) Master Blaster - Sachin Tendulkar

2) Super Star - Shahrukh Khan

The debate was on 'who do you think is more popular' and just that. Not who has more money or who is a better man.

As for me, Sachin's certainly a Legend, just like SRK and only bigger one at that.
But I do not agree if you say he is a real life hero or real performer. I feel both the legends are giving output of some entertainment media.

And I'm also a fan of Sachin, love him, watch cricket primarily for him, cherish the moment I accidentally stumbled onto him!!! nothing of the sort with SRK -- he is smart, quick to quip, a better front-man for any representation.

Although it's not a level-field comparison, both are in different fields and thus just can't be compared -- But that's the question

I say, in his field, Sachin certainly rules - Globally. Same is not true for the other.

Walnut Tarts

Yuk!
The ones that I had today is what i express my feelings on.
They looked pretty, but were just too untasty.
I wish I had my camera to click them and bring back the nightmares that I certainly am going to see a DVD quality movie of today. Oh I could have treasured myself with a priceless-useless possession, scaring me whenever I wished.

Even the one who suggested said "it tastes like shit".
Included in the unfortunate event were the ppl from the office and it's sad that it was me sponsoring the event.

Thus I have another reason to not to forget it.
Just to save me some nauseating moments, i'll post this good-looking pic of some.

here here here...

Do i need to mention the courtesy for the pic -- the owner's made sure of that anyway

Pronunciation

Try this:
(Disclaimer: ctrl C, ctrl V performed from here)

If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be
speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the
world.

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation's OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Foeffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

SMS SMS everywhere

Thinking about it, there are so many sites that are offering free SMS sending and each has it's own differentiation marked.
I'll just try putting down the different sites that are offering SMS service (did I miss the FREE keyword?), needless to say the list would never be complete (even if I were Mr. Google himself) and additions to the list would be made as and when encountered. Here it goes, without any order:

1) 160by2 : One of the first ones to bring in this service, quickly adopted by swarms. As the name says, the characters offered are 160/2, and then they use the other 160/2 for their ads (which I'm convinced are non-contextual, err... they are not contextual, if that sounded different). Plus they have numerous features, latest being send sms to Kuwait & Singapore.
Opinion: Fall of the legends [somehow, whenever I clicked on the username box, a pop-up would...pop-up...annoying.

2) Way2Sms: Again, a pioneer in the space, the first ones to distribute this concept. It's been time since I visited this site, I see many new features -- mail / IM integration being the one that was new to me!
Just a bit apprehensive post having tried using my gmail through this.
Opinion: Ad-hungry again, but liked the mail integration despite my apprehension
[The pop-up popped here too, just a click is all it takes]

3)Youmint: Brought in the concept of earning money on receiving SMS. Offers lined up currently on the site...upon registration. Plus I on-the-run noticed testimonials from users, specially reward receivers.
Opinion: It'll take much to say some. Though I'd'nt stop from saying -- Clean, neat page.

4)Spice SMS: I didn't even know about this site and I say what Cypher said to the agents - Ignorance is bliss.
Cluttered would be my first impression, was my first impression.

5)Atrochatro: The one that gives 148 characters to the users.
(I just realised if this list is to be a list, it better be just a list and not a descriptive one at that)

6)Indyarocks: Has innovated around a lot of stuff including SMS. I like their reminder service.

7)SMSseva: *_*

8)Krify: Yeah I know, the name you mean? Ignore that...Everybody is giving some differentiated stuff. Krify has Blogs to offer. Did not try it much.
9)Smsjunction:
10)Vyomworld:
11)Mysmsindia:
12)Freesms8: Unlimited 160 characters sms!
13)Smsfi: Another bit in the bytes -- They have contests/videos/forums/blogs besides the Free sms feature - the looks are clean at least
14) Smsgupshup: Gaah, how could i forget this - This is the one with all the publicity right now, especially due to the recent Facebook-Smsgupshup tie-up, which enables facebook on SMS in India. SmsGupshup is the largest mobile community in India -- referred as Facebook of India, it claims more than 20 Mn users in over a million communities. The beauty of the concept is that you can form your own community. Anybody can join the community and start receiving the content as you put some...leave apart any other player that I may have mentioned, this, my reader, is the biggest - at least as of now.
15) Smsmeon: A disruptive idea - a micro-blogging platform coupled with SMS integration. If you are unknown to Keywords, Short-code - no problem. It'll take 10s to understand. sms Papa to 56767. 'Papa' is the keyword and the number that it is sent to is the short-code. Smsmeon allows you to own a keyword [usually you would want it to be your/org name or something that you represent -- something like a domain name -- but then it can be anything] on the short-code 56070 -- For FREE(Till now it was a paid product, with prices upwards of 3k per keyword per month!!) - It is mobile identity in Smsmeon's terminology. So what does that give you? Why should you want an identity on mobile?
Ans: just for the same reason that you would want an email Id or a domain name.
The Free-sms sending is just another add-on onto the site to attract users. I am totally impressed by the idea of getting a reservation on 56070 [I'm Brijesh on 56070]. Now it's upto me to create the use for it.

I'm certain I have covered some decimal % of the sites out there, but these are the ones I could recall / google! and out of these I'd say "impressive" to
- Smsgupshup - for their sheer success and self-serve module provision - which in turn is the reason for it's success
- Way2sms, 160by2 - for seeding the idea of Free sms and enraging the other players.
- Smsmeon - for the self-serve module and revolutionary idea of free keywords on short-codes.

I have misquoted something?
Have I missed something which shouldn't have?
You want to add something to this?
Go ahead the comment section is yearning for some characters from you.

twitter twitter everywhere

Yes, as everybody else, I too am writing about twitter. There are so many things around twitter that have been built. Just my attempt to write the most crazy and different ones over here.

  1. Tweets from mars phoenix !
  2. Species that tweet - Horse; Dog; Cat;
  3. Plants - This one i didn't explore much
  4. HOUSE This one's got a name too, I mean a expansion of SARAH!
This last one has been too much for me to take -- I cease to write.
Here's Cofi -- He to tweets, only intermittently just like most of us.

Any other weirder entities that you know which tweet?

Added:
- tweet from excel! (Via @neverclever)
-

Such is life

There is this serial on air these days, a copy of "Moment of Truth" - 'Sach Ka Samna'. Just saw that it's got a legal notice for content that offends good taste and decency.
(Here's the link)

This was coming their way. The fundamental of this game is that prior to the show, offline, people are asked 50 questions with "lie-detector" attachment and the results noted down. During the show they are then asked 21 questions from the same 50 questions and you keep on playing till you are telling the truth (based on the earlier answer-results matching with your current answers)

Here's the Vinod Kambli episode clip:

The questions asked are what the show is all about -- meant to be embarrassing, uncomfortable to answer. All answers are either Yes or No. The contestants, of course, have the option of leaving anytime -- with the clause that they forfeit their prize money. I was of the opinion that both ways, one loses in the game. If you are asked a question that you answer incorrectly -- results say it's a lie -- then you are out of the game. If you are asked a question that you do not wish to answer -- again you lose -- the answer of course can now be guessed by anyone as we know that he didn't answer the question since the answer must be the embarrassing Yes (or no, whichever is more shameful).

I have my own thoughts on the ability of polygraph tests to actually determine whether a person is lying or not -- the thoughts are negative!.There's no way a machine can be 100% accurate.

What do you say, do these polygraph - lie-detector - tests mean anything?

What does twitter reveal about the Rediff revamp

Rediff.com has secretly revamped it's site and it's a change a blind man can't miss.
It's completely that - revamped.

Had been listening to people crib / swear / appreciate(only a few) about the activity, so thought I might as well do a simple search and post the views of people - tweeples to be specific, internetly speaking!

So I did just that using this new site that I heard of -- Listoftweets.com
here is what came out:

Movies that must be seen

Just a list of movies that, in my opinion, must be seen before you leave for the other side. No order in which they have been penned.

1) The doors
2) Matrix
3) Black - Hindi
4) My cousin Vinny
5) Fight Club
6) Into the wild
7) Amelie - french
8) Jaane Bhi do yaaron - Hindi
9) Kung Fu Hustle ( try watching this in hindi if you can)
10) The goodfellas
11) The bucketlist
12) The matrix
13) The Godfather
14) If only
15) The Cable guy
16) Snatch
17) Pulp Fiction

The ones that I could think of are up there. The list will have more additions.

You think I missed something very important?
Suggest...I might just add it

10 Most popular

I'd asked this on my tweet as well - The question being "Who do you think is the most popular human being in the world?"

When I say most popular, the scale is what I'm talking about -- be it region-wise (village / city / town, asia / europe / US, north/west/south/east) or age-wise (kids / teenagers / adults / older ppl) or relationship wise (friends / relatives / colleagues) -- ever in history - dead or alive.

A difficult question to answer -- better would be to have a set of people rather than singling out one.

I tried googling it as well, but perhaps wasn't quite able to frame the right search query.

My take on the short-listed:
1) Michael Jackson -- yeah the recent news storm actuated the thought, besides him being my first guess.
2) Mahatma Gandhi
3) Alexander The Great
4) Muhammad Ali
5) Adolf Hitler
6) Elvis Presley
7) Mother Teresa
8) Arnold Schwarzenegger
9) Jesus Christ
10) Osama Bin Laden

Now the popularity could be not about know about the person -- just having heard the name would suffice as a popularity parameter.

What's your opinion?

There are many that I didn't include in the list, simply because there's no end to it and 10 seemed like a decent figure.

Update: here is another post that talks about the same thing.

The race

It was a stadium, eight children were standing in their tracks for a race that was about to begin. Ready, steady, GO...

The race started, children ran with all their energies.
Just a few steps far, a girl tripped and fell. She was slightly injured, with minor bruises and she began to cry...
Seeing this, the other participants -- all seven of them, came back. One of the seven consoled her, kissed her and held her had to pick her up. All seven joined in and carried the girl to the finish line.

The crowd, needless to say, was baffled. Few claps grew into thousands and the whole crowd was on their feet, many with tears in their eyes.

This, readers, is a true story that happened in an event held in Hyderabad for mentally challenged children - National Institute of Mental Health.
These children were all mentally challenged -- we, the normal people would never do that - why? because we have brains.

I read this story in our office notice board -- and I personally was quite moved by it.

How many times have I done that?
How many times have you done that?
How many times have we heard about something like this?

Indian summer

and I hate the heat, as Eddie would have said Once.
Truth is I'm feeling quite quite quite lethargic today...maybe my outing in the glorious sun did this, maybe it's the addition of car a/c not functioning properly, failed meeting, de-motivated spirits and pure boredom mixing-in to give me this concoction which I so got drenched in that i slept in a discussion, came back to my desk - slept, woke up in sometime and am feeling lethargic still -- force myself to write this to buzz it off. I think it worked

life in an elevator

It was pretty sandy today. Had a game of tennis to play for which I was 5 minutes, sometimes, a bit too late. Soon as I thought that I'd been given a chance at the cost of the 4th player's slight misfortune when he got the info from his son&wife that they had somehow been locked out of the house with the keys inside, the lights went off. I stayed patient. The electricity would be there soon...alas, massive sandstorm, winds, heavy winds replaced the electricity part in my optimistic thought. I was fearing something would come flying taking me to final destination. When you think thoughts like this, they seldom happen; good that i live to tell that.
Ran back home...went to buy some survival accessories. On my way back in the elevator, had this thought that i should measure it's speed or rather the time it takes to reach the top floor. So i did initiate that, and when it reached 6/7 th floor, puff... darkness all around.Motion halted. Electricity gone. The emergency lights(i assume) came in about 5-7s... but the elevator wouldn't move...and then there were these weird wire / mechanical noises which would scare the body-processed-food out of most. Somehow i wasn't twitched...though when i saw the door opening i jumped out! Realised it was 7th floor that i was on. Tried to get back to the elevator after a few secs but the outer display was plainly showing down arrow...took the adjacent one for home floor thinking adventure enough.

Google says, this is what the world searches

I tried a search "why are indians so..." and then i did another search, trying to dig the common searches, "India is the..." and here us what was the suggested search results said...

Got this idea from here

As Alanis would've said...isn't it ironic
